The first stakes race on Sunday afternoon was the $100,000 Light Hearted Stakes, a 6 furlong sprint for older fillies and mares. Only four entered after 2 scratched, with Trickle of Gold the 2-5 favorite. The favorite went to the front soon after the start and got a quarter in 22.37 and a half in 45.34. But through the stretch, 5-2 second choice Miss Elsie, who had stalked the pace in second, was able to take over inside the 1/8 pole to win by 2 lengths over Thats Our Song and Baldomera. Favored Trickle of Gold weakened badly at the 1/16 pole finishing last, and was vanned off the track.
