The $750,000 United Nations Stakes (G1) is the most prestigious turf race at Monmouth Park. Seven older horses entered this 1 3/8 mile event, including 2-1 favorite Relaxed Gesture. 5-2 second choice English Channel settled in mid-pack well off the pace of 85-1 Shake The Bank, then closed three-wide on the far turn to prevail over 7-2 Cacique by 1/2 a length in 2:13.24. Relaxed Gesture was 1 3/4 lengths behind Cacique for third. Winning jockey John Velazquez said, "Today he was more relaxed, and saved some energy. When I asked him, he kicked in. He handled the footing fine. I wanted to rate him behind horses and he was able to do that. I knew once that happened that he'd be tough. Once he was able to settle, I had no doubt he'd kick on in the lane, and he did just that."
