The $250,000 Mother Goose Stakes (G1) features top 3-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles on the Belmont Park main track, and is the middle leg of the New York Triple Tiara, between the Acorn and the Coaching Club American Oaks. Just 5 three-year-old fillies went to post in this 1 1/16 mile main track contest before 5,487 spectators, with Bonnie Miss (G2) winner Devil May Care sent off as the 9-10 favorite, unraced since finishing 10th in the Kentucky Derby last out. In to challenge her included 3-1 second choice Biofuel, Canadian champion juvenile filly and winner of two straight, the Star Shoot and the La Lorgnette, and 9-2 third choice Katy Now, winner of three consecutive allowance events and making her stakes debut.
Jockey Kent Desormeaux sent Katy Now to the lead exiting the chute and she set quick fractions of 22.81, 45.59, and 1:09.92 over the fast track while 5-1 fourth choice Connie and Michael stalked her in second a length behind. Devil May Care, who bobbled at the start, sat third out wide the whole way. Entering the stretch, jockey John Velazquez asked Devil May Care for run and she cruised to the front at the 3/16 pole. She easily extended her lead through the final furlong to win going away by 1 1/4 length in 1:42.06. It was another length back to Biofuel third.
