Jambalaya, who had a four-race win streak last season, was back to his winning ways on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course, holding off a game Last Answer in Sunday's $100,000 Singspiel Stakes at Woodbine. Jambalaya, who now has five wins from eight grass starts, stormed to the lead just prior to the final turn in the 1 1/2-mile event, before fending off a strong outside bid from jockey Emile Ramsammy and Last Answer. Diplomatic Agent came on for third while even-money favorite Pellegrino finished a well beaten fourth. The final time for the race over a firm turf was 2:27.15.

For trainer Catherine Day Phillips, the win was a welcome one, after Jambalaya’s heartbreaking fourth-place finish in the Grade 3 Connaught, just a neck back of Remarkable News on May 28. "It was a bit of a heartbreaker to have watched him run that hard and end up fourth," said Day Phillips. "I think he was disappointed that he didn’t win and this hopefully will put him in a good frame of mind.”
