Marco Be Good, the second-longest shot on the board, at 12-1, pulled off a shocker in the six furlong $200,000 Scotts Highlander Stakes (G3) on the turf. This was the first of three turf stakes on the Queen's Plate undercard. With apprentice Justin Stein in the irons, Marco Be Good was positioned comfortably in third, about five lengths behind pacesetters Langfleur and Gamblers Slew, as the first quarter was ripped in :21.94. As the field turned into the stretch, Marco Be Good took charge and held off the late run of US shipper Atticus Kristy by a half-length in a final time of 1:07.87, just one fifth of a second off the track record. Sophia’s Prince finished third, a half-length further back, while another invader, Man of Illusion, who went postward the 6-5 choice with Victor Espinoza up, never threatened, finishing fifth, almost three lengths in behind. There was a claim of foul by jockey Simon Husbands on Sophia's Prince, but it was disallowed.

Jockey Justin Stein, after winning his first stakes at Woodbine, said, "The horses in front of me were in front by quite a bit more than I thought, but I was very happy with where I was sitting. At the head of the lane, he just fired. He was running hard down the lane. I knew it would take a horse with a lot of run to catch him."
