Queen's Plate day also features three stakes races on the undercard that are contested over the E.P. Taylor Turf Course, which was very firm thanks to dry hot weather all week. Kicking off the stakes action was the $200,000 Scotts Highlander Stakes (G3) for older sprinters going 6 furlongs on the lawn.

5-2 second choice Smart Enough was quickest out of the gate and went to the lead right away through a quarter in 22.12 while being stalked by 4-5 favorite Stradivinsky along the hedge to his inside. Around the turn, Smart Enough continued to lead through a 1/2 in 44.56 as Stradivinsky continued to stalk him as the field entered the homestretch. Smart Enough pulled away to a 1 1/2 length lead with a furlong to go, getting 5/8 in 56.19, and was all out to hold off the late charge of 6-1 Heros Reward by 1/2 a length in 1:08.53. It was just 3/4 length back to Stradivinsky in third.
