Happy Ticket overcame a poor start to battle with favored Oonagh Maccool
throughout the stretch and scored a head victory in the $321,900 Fleur De Lis
Handicap (G2) for older fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on the main track.
Oonagh Maccool was clear at the head of the stretch, but Happy Ticket surged
four wide and caught the leader an furlong from the wire. The two horses
battled on nearly even terms to the finish, with Happy Ticket sticking her
head in front of Oonagh Maccool just before the finish, in 1:49.23. Winning
jockey Julien Leparoux said, "When I asked her, it was a very good feeling. It
was good that the leader (Oonagh Maccool) broke so sharp, because I could just
sit and track the leader. That was good for me and my filly, too."
