Even-money favorite Chelokee did not disappoint in the $200,000 Northern Dancer Breeders' Cup Stakes (G3) for 3-year-olds. He stalked the early pace of Portobello Road and Tsali while staying out wide, then took over the lead after 6f in 1:11.99. In mid-stretch, Zanjero briefly passed him and looked to have pulled off the upset, but Chelokee came back in thrilling fashion to take the win right back by a neck, getting the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1:42.46. 3-1 second choice Sam P finished another 2 1/4 lengths back in third.

Winning jockey Ramon Dominguez said, "I was very pleased to see my horse come back the way he did. I didn't know what to think when (Zanjero) went by me. I knew for sure that I had a little more horse left, because at that point I had not used mine, but at the same time, that other horse made such a bold move, it kind of left me wondering whether I could keep up in contention with that kind of a kick and if that was the case, then nobody was going to be a match for him. After that horse made the lead, my horse had the opportunity to come back and challenge him and I knew that I had a chance because my horse kept on battling."
