A field of 3-year-olds went 1 1/8 miles on the Matt Winn Turf Course in the $200,000 Jefferson Cup (G2). 8-1 shot Inca King captured the event in gate to wire fashion, taking the lead and slowing the pace down to 24.80, 49.95, and 1:14.61. Entering the stretch, Inca King accelerated away from 9-10 favorite Duveen to win by 3 lengths in 1:48.94 over firm turf. Jazz Quest finished third.

Winning trainer Steve Asmussen, who saddled his fourth winner in the first six races on the card, said, "This horse has been running excellent, and what a great day to show up. I've been very proud of the effort that all of my horses have put in so far today, but hopefully we're not done. We've got a couple left." Owner Brett Brinkman added, "It played out to where he was on the front end by himself, and it definitely paid off in the end. The short field surprised me, but other than that it played out the way I thought it would on paper. I thought, maybe, that somebody would try to go up front with us, but I felt good about it during the running."
