A compact field of six top older fillies and mares competed in Saturday's $300,000 Ogden Phipps Handicap (G1), contested at 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Belmont Park in New York. Last year's winner Take D'Tour was back and was the 11-10 favorite after finishing second in the Apple Blossom at Oaklawn in her last start. Madison Stakes second place finisher Ginger Punch was sent off as the 7-2 second choice on the board over 5-1 Miss Shop, returning to the main track after two poor finishes on turf.
Teammate, Take D'Tour, and Bushfire contested the pace for the first 1/4 in 23.07 before Bushfire dropped back, allowing the other two to continue to battle up front through a 1/2 mile in 44.97. Teammate stopped badly at the top of the stretch after the pair had gone 6f in 1:09.34, and she would eventually finish last of all. Take D'Tour pulled away to a 3 1/2 length lead and easily held off late-running Ginger Punch by 1/2 a length at the line, completing the trip in 1:41.39. The balance of the field was strung out, as 8 1/4 lengths separated Ginger Punch and third place finisher Promenade Girl, who was 4 1/2 lengths ahead of fourth place finisher Miss Shop. Bushfire was 5 lengths back of Miss Shop and 4 lengths clear of Teammate in last.
