The older female division was featured at Belmont Park on Saturday in the $250,000 Ogden Phipps Handicap (G1). A field of just 5 went to post in this 1 1/16 mile trip around one turn of the main track, under cloudy skies before just 5,368 fans. Unrivaled Belle was sent off as the 3-5 favorite off two straight wins, in the Rampart (G3) at Gulfstream in March followed by an upset over Rachel Alexandra in the La Troienne (G2) at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks day. In to challenge her included 2-1 second choice Life at Ten, winner of 4 in a row including the Rare Treat at Aqueduct in February and the Sixty Sails (G3) at Hawthorne in April, and 3-1 third choice Funny Moon, winner of the Shuvee Handicap (G2) last out at Belmont after finishing second in the Doubledogdare (G3) at Keeneland.
Jockey John Velazquez sent Life at Ten to the front exiting the chute and she set very fast early fractions of 23.22, 45.55, and 1:08.40 with Unrivaled Belle stalking her a half length behind and just to her outside. The pair continued to battle to the quarter pole when Velazquez asked Life at Ten for run. She shook off her challenger, opening up 3 lengths on her through a mile in 1:34.13, finishing under wraps 2 3/4 lengths in front, completing the trip in 1:40.72 It was just a head back from Unrivaled Belle to Funny Moon third, and 17 lengths back to the rest of the field.
