2006 Preakness Undercard Stakes Results

The $100,000 William Donald Schaefer Handicap saw the third win on the day for the jockey-trainer team of Garrett Gomez and Todd Pletcher, as 6-5 favorite Master Command went gate to wire, shaking off the stubborn 7-2 Andromeda's Hero late in the stretch to prevail by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:49.42 for the 1 1/8 mile trip. 8-5 second choice Funny Cide was third. Buzz Chace, bloodstock agent for winning owners Aaron and Marie Jones said, "He is a horse we bought at Saratoga and we always liked him. Todd (Pletcher) found a race for him in a stake that he thought he could win, and it worked out fine. He is a well-bred horse, and he could have a stallion’s future."
