The $250,000 Black Eyed Susan Stakes (G2) is the traditional feature on the Friday before Preakness, and is Pimlico's equivalent to the Oaks. 10-1 shot Smart N Pretty led from gate to wire, taking the field through a slow half of almost 49 seconds while being chased by 4-1 Saratoga Drive. However, when 5-1 closer Regal Engagement drew even, Smart N Pretty bore out and bumped Regal Engagement, causing the latter to lose momentum and finish second. Jockey Ramon Dominguez lodged a claim of foul while the stewards lit the inquiry sign, and after a brief deliberation the stewards disqualified Smart N Pretty and placed her behind Regal Engagement, who was declared the winner. Disqualified rider Norberto Arroyo Jr. said, "I never thought I took the path away from the other horse. When we brushed, my horse switched leads and I thought she straightened out then. I don't think my filly should have been taken down. His horse bumped mine."
