Historically, the $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland Race Course has been the best race to use as a final prep for the Kentucky Derby. Nine 3-year-olds went to the gate for the 1 1/8 mile feature before a crowd of 30,660. Under jockey Garrett Gomez, 9-1 shot Sinister Minister was allowed an uncontested lead the whole way. Despite a fast pace of 22.91 and 45.88, no other horse was able to close, as Sinister Minister finished 12 3/4 lengths ahead of 66-1 shot Storm Treasure, finishing the distance in 1:48.85. 5-2 second choice Strong Contender was third while 8-5 favorite Bluegrass Cat was fourth.
