The $300,000 Carter Handicap (G1) for older horses sprinting 7 furlongs on the main track drew just 6 starters after trainer Richard Dutrow scratched both Silver Train and Kazoo to avoid the wet conditions. 8-1 shot Bishop Court Hill led every step of the way under Jose Santos and held off the late charge of 5-2 second choice Sir Greeley to win by a neck in a time of 1:23.27 over the sloppy track. 2-1 favorite Mass Media chased the pace down the backstretch but tired late, finishing fourth. Ramon Dominguez aboard the beaten favorite said, "I thought he was in a good spot. He just didn't seem to handle the surface in the last part of the race. That's the only thing I can come up with. He was doing fine until the quarter-pole and he just flattened out."
