The $750,000 Wood Memorial (G1) at Aqueduct is the major New York prep for the Kentucky Derby. In the 2006 edition, 2-1 second choice Bob and John shipped in from California to take on even-money favorite Keyed Entry. Keyed Entry and jockey Edgar Prado set a brisk pace of 46.26 and 1:11.01 over the sloppy going, as Bob and John sat back in third for the backstretch trip staying out in the 3 path to avoid the deep inside section of the track. At the top of the stretch, jockey Garrett Gomez asked Bob and John for run and got it, as the Bob Baffert trainee surged to the front in the final 3/16 mile to win by 1 1/2 lengths, completing the 1 1/8 mile feature in 1:51.54. 16-1 shot Jazil rallied from ninth to get second place over the tiring Keyed Entry.
