The $100,000 Rushaway Stakes for 3-year-olds saw 7-2 second choice High Cotton lead from gate to wire, slowing down the pace through fractions of 47.49 and 1:12.14 despite pressure from 13-1 shot Warrior Within. High Cotton had another gear saved for the stretch drive, as he easily held off the late charging 40-1 longshot Special Interest to prevail by 2 3/4 lengths. He completed the 1 1/16 mile event in 1:45.19. 3-1 favorite Fabled failed to fire, and was seventh.
