A field of seven 3-year-old fillies went to post in the $200,000 Silverbulletday Stakes (G3), one of four graded stakes on the Louisiana Derby Preview Day card at the Fair Grounds on Saturday, February 9. 7-10 favorite and 2007 champion juvenile filly Indian Blessing came into the race undefeated, having won the Santa Ynez at Santa Anita last time out. Proud Spell, who finished second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, was the 2-1 second choice in her first start as a 3-year-old. 5-1 Jolie the Cat, coming off two straight wins including the Tiffany Lass, rounded out the top three on the board.
Outsider Miss Missile was quickest out of the gate and led around the clubhouse turn through a quarter in 23.87, with Indian Blessing right behind her. Down the backstretch, the champion easily took over the lead, getting the half in 47.14 and 3/4 in 1:11.40. Proud Spell sat back in fourth early. Entering the stretch, jockey Garrett Gomez urged the champion and she responded, opening up a 4 length lead at the 1/8 pole. Proud Spell came out wide and put in a strong rally but was no match for Indian Blessing who easily held her off by a length in 1:43.75. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to late-running Highest Class in third.
