The highlight of this weekend's racing was Gulfstream Park on Saturday, with the older horses contesting the $500,000 Donn Handicap (G1) at 1 1/8 miles on the main track. A small crowd of just 7,670 braved steady rain all day, with the main track sloppy and the turf races taken off. In the main event, 8-1 shot Brass Hat settled well off the quick early pace of On Thin Ice and favored Suave, rallied on the far turn and took over the lead with 1 1/2 furlongs to go, and pulled away to an easy 4 3/4 length win over Pies Prospect. The running time was 1:47.99. Andromeda's Hero was third, while 2-1 favorite Suave contested the early pace but tired in the stretch and finished sixth.
