Closing out the stakes action on Santa Anita Derby day was the $75,000 American Beauty Stakes for older fillies and mares going 1 mile on the turf. Belle Royale was sent off as the 6-5 choice in the field of 9 over 4-1 Gem of Soul and 7-1 Sweetly Peppered.

Jockey Brice Blanc sent 17-1 A Jealous Woman to the lead and she set fractions of 22.64, 45.95, and 1:09.36 over the firm course while as many as 2 1/2 lengths in front of Sweetly Peppered. A Jealous Woman held the lead to midstretch through 7 furlongs in 1:21.12, but Belle Royale, 8th early, stormed through the lane to get up by 1/2 a length in 1:33.09. It was another 1/2 length back to 8-1 Go Forth North third.
