The premier race for older fillies and mares during the Santa Anita fall meet is the $250,000 Zenyatta Stakes (G1), formerly the Lady's Secret, a 1 1/16 mile main track trip with the winner earning automatic entry into the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic. Amani was sent off as the 2-1 favorite in the field of 9, sixth in the Pacific Classic (G1) against males after winning he Clement Hirsch Stakes (G1), both at Del Mar. In to challenge her included 5-2 second choice Include Me Out, winner of the Clement Hirsch last out, and 4-1 third choice Love and Pride, shipping in from Saratoga where she won the Personal Ensign (G1).
Jockey Martin Garcia sent Love and Pride to the lead first time past the stands and she set fractions of 23.98, 48.47, and 1:12.58 over the fast track while stalked by 46-1 longest shot Via Villagio and 7-1 Joyful Victory. At the top of the stretch, Via Villagio tired while Love and Pride began to extend her lead, finishing up 3 1/4 lengths in front of Joyful Victory in 1:43.09. It was another 1/2 length back to late-running Include Me Out third, while favorite Amani was fifth.
