The $300,000 Del Mar Debutante Stakes (G1) on Saturday features the top 2-year-old fillies on the west coast sprinting 7 furlongs on the Polytrack at Del Mar. Executiveprivilege, undefeated in three starts including the Landaluce at Hollywood and then Sorrento (G3) at Del Mar, was sent off as the 4-5 favorite in the field of 8. In to challenge her included 5-2 second choice Mechaya, off her August 10 debut win, and 8-1 third choice Beholder, winner of a maiden race at second asking.
Beholder was sent to the lead exiting the chute by jockey Garrett Gomez and she set quick fractions of 22.44 and 45.34 while 1 1/2 lengths in front of 27-1 Pat's back and Mechaya stalking her second and third respectively. Entering the stretch, Beholder extended her lead, opening up by 2 1/2 lengths at the 1/8 pole through 3/4 in 1:10.00, but Executiveprivilege, fourth early, closed on the outside and despite drifting outward, nailed Beholder at the line for the nose victory in 1:23.43 over the fast all-weather surface. It was a long 4 1/4 lengths back to Mechaya third.
