The $300,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) is the second leg of the New York Triple Tiara featuring some of the top 3-year-old fillies going 1 1/8 miles, one complete lap of the main track. The 21,948 fans in attendance enjoyed sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 80's. In Lingerie was sent off as the 3-2 favorite in the field of six, exiting consecutive wins in the Bourbonette Oaks (G3) at Turfway and the Black-Eyed Susan (G2) at Pimlico. In to challenge her included 2-1 second choice Zo Impressive, winner of the Mother Goose (G1) at Belmont, and 7-2 third choice Questing, an allowance winner at Belmont last out.

Jockey Joel Rosario sent 21-1 longest shot Yara to the lead first time past the stands and she opened up a 3 1/2 length advantage on the clubhouse turn, getting the initial quarter in 23.21 while chased by Questing. Down the backstretch, jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. asked Questing to challenge and she obliged, taking a short lead at the 5/8 pole through a half in 47.65. As Yara tired, Questing opened up a 1 1/2 length advantage through 3/4 in 1:12.20. Zo Impressive, last through 3/4 mile, rallied late but Questing was drawing away, finishing up 4 1/4 lengths clear in a time of 1:50.30 over the fast track. It was another 2 1/4 lengths back to late-running In Lingerie third.
