Along with the Arlington Million, there are two other Grade 1 events on International Festival of Racing day at Arlington Park.
Immediately before the main event, the females took center stage in the $750,000 Beverly D Stakes. A field of 11 older fillies and mares contested this 1 3/16 mile trip over the Arlington Park turf on Saturday, with Stacelita sent off as the 9-5 favorite off her 3rd place finish against males in the United Nations Stakes (G1) at Monmouth Park. In to challenge her included 7-2 second choice River Jetez, 5th in the Falmouth Stakes (G1) at Newmarket last out, and 4-1 third choice Cheetah, off her win in the Robert G. Dick Memorial (G3) at Delaware Park.
Dubawi Heights to the lead first time by and she set easy fractions of 24.15, 49.97, 1:15.49, and 1:40.69 under jockey Joel Rosario, while being pressed by Never Retreat a length back. Ramon Dominguez kept favorite Stacelita close up 3rd behind those two. On the far turn, Stacelita came through between horses for her bid, and passed the pacesetter at the furlong marker. Kept to task she pulled away in the final furlong to win by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:57.57 over the yielding going. It was just a head back to late-running River Jetez third.
