Immediately before the Woodward Stakes, a field of 9 older sprinters went 7 furlongs in the $250,000 Forego Stakes (G1). Fourstardave Handicap (G2) winner Sidney's Candy was sent off as the 5-2 favorite in his first dirt start since the 2010 Kentucky Derby (G1). In to challenge him included 7-2 second choice Jackson Bend, winner of the James Marvin Stakes last out, and 9-2 third choice Regal Ransom, 11th and last in the Stephen Foster (G1) last out after finishing a close second in the Alysheba (G3).
Hamazing Destiny and Sidney's Candy battled for the lead down the backstretch through fractions of 22.09 and 44.45 while being stalked by Escrow Kid third. Entering the lane, the pacesetters both tired as Jackson Bend, who was 7th for the first 1/2 mile, came through late to gain the lead at the 1/8 pole through 3/4 in 1:09.20, and drew off in the final furlong to win by 3 1/4 lengths over late-running Jersey Town in 1:22.08 over the fast track. It was a head back to Aikenite third.
