Sam-Son Farm's Soaring Free has been installed as the 2-1 morning line favourite in a field of 11 for Sunday's $1 million Atto Mile at Woodbine. The Grade 1, one mile classic over the E.P. Taylor Turf Course will go postward at 5:08 pm ET and will be televised nationally across Canada on Rogers Sportsnet from 4:30 - 5:30 pm. The Atto Mile will also air in the United States on ABC-TV, in a horse racing special from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, which will also feature the Matron and Ruffian Stakes from Belmont Park in New York.

The special guest drawmaster for Friday's post position draw was Adam van Koeverden, Canada's double medallist (gold and bronze) in kayaking at the recent Olympic Summer Games in Athens.

Soaring Free (PP11, 2-1), trained by Mark Frostad, will be trying to improve slightly on his performance in last year's Atto, when he finished a game second, just a half-length behind winner Touch Of The Blues. Today, he drew the same outside post-position as he had last year. Named Canada's top sprinter in 2003, he'll also attempt to become the first post-time favourite to win the race. The best previous finish by a favourite was a second by Affirmed Success in 2001.

Darley Stable's Millennium Dragon (PP6, 7-2), a winner once in six starts this year for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, is the second choice in the morning line. He heads into the race off a second-place finish to another Atto rival, Christine's Outlaw, in the one mile Poker Handicap, July 10 at Belmont. However, the five-year-old British-bred son of former European champion miler Mark of Esteem was giving seven pounds to the winner that day.

Another local star gearing up for a big performance is Charles Fipke's Perfect Soul (PP8, 4-1), who finished a flying third in last year's Atto, his first career attempt at the flat mile distance. Last season, the son of Sadler's Wells won three of eight starts, including the Keeneland Turf Mile, on his way to earning a Sovereign Award as Canada's top turf male.

Here are the entries with post positions and morning line odds followed by a brief description and photograph of each. Free past performances are available from Daily Racing Form.
