Godolphin Racing Inc.'s Crimson Palace stalked a slow pace, then edged clear in the final twenty yards to win the $750,000 Beverly D. Stakes (G1) by a half-length Saturday at Arlington Park. European star Frankie Dettori rode the daughter of Elliodor, who covered the mile and three-sixteenths over firm turf in 1:56.58.

"She's a great filly," said winning trainer Saeed bin Suroor. "She showed she had the class to win a Grade or Group I. We'll have to see how she comes back, but we'll consider the Breeders' Cup (Filly & Mare Turf)."

"I think maybe the straight track at Ascot was a bit too much for her," said Dettori, referring to Crimson Palace's most recent race, a disappointing sixth-place effort in the Group II Windsor Forest Stakes at Ascot in England on June 16. "She handled the turns here very well. She was in control and showed a good kick. It's great to get her back to the way she was because she ran a couple of disappointing races back home. A great job by the team to get her back together."

The $450,000 winner's share from the Beverly D. effectively tripled her earnings to $663,278 while record improved to seven wins from 11 lifetime starts. After Musical Chimes briefly took the early lead for the first quarter mile, which was run in 24.83 seconds, Aubonne assumed the lead and held it until midstretch through fractions of 49.89 for the half, 1:15.48 for six furlongs and 1:39.76 for the mile. Crimson Palace stalked the pace in third while four wide down the backstretch, raced outside turning for home and wore down her foes. Riskaverse who raced in fourth position throughout most of the race, closed for second, with Necklace rallying from seventh to finish a neck farther back in third.

"There was no pace in the race-that was our problem," commented Neil Drysdale, trainer of Musical Chimes who finished fourth as the 2-1 favorite. "This filly wants to come from off the pace and she ended up on the lead."

Crimson Palace paid $21.80 to win, $11.00 to place and $9.00 to show. Riskaverse returned $8.00 and $7.00. Neckalce paid $11.80 to show. Musical Chimes, Bedanken, Aubonne, Aud, Shaconage, Commercante, Quero Quero and Noches de Rosa completed the order of finish.
