The $1 million Delta Jackpot Stakes (G3) is an early Triple Crown prep, and is a points scoring race under the new "Road to the Kentucky Derby" series. A field of 9 two-year-olds contested this 1 1/16 mile trip at Delta Downs, with Jean Lafitte winner Bern Identity sent off as the 9-5 favorite over 5-2 Goldencents, second in the Champagne (G1), and 5-1 Know More, 13th in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1). Jockey Kevin Krigger sent Goldencents to the lead and he set fractions of 22.64, 46.22, and 1:11.18 while stalked by 67-1 longest shot Heaven's Runway. In the stretch, Bern Identity put in a strong rally from last but Goldencents easily held him off by 1 3/4 length in 1:44.89. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to 25-1 Mylute third.

Winning trainer Doug O'Neill said, “He’s such a nice colt. He has so much natural speed and he handled himself like a seasoned pro. We will probably look somewhere at Santa Anita after the first of the year. Maybe the Bob Lewis Stakes.”

The distaff counterpart to the Jackpot is the $500,000 Delta Downs Princess Stakes (G3) for 2-year-old fillies going 1 mile. 9-2 Salamera and 18-1 Unhedged battled for the lead through fractions of 23.49, 48.49, and 1:13.85 before tiring. 5-2 second choice Rose to Gold, who tracked the leaders in third, passed them to win by 1/2 a length over late-running 25-1 Touch Magic in 1:39.39. It was another 2 1/4 lengths back to 11-1 Sittin at the Bar third, and 2 1/2 more to 7-5 favorite Madame Cactus fourth.
