On Wednesday night at Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong, twelve top riders from around the world were invited for the Hong Kong International Jockeys' Championship. Each rider was randomly assigned mounts in three handicap races, and points are awarded to the top 5 finishers in a 12-6-4-3-2 format. The winning rider is given a silver whip and a HK$200,000 (about $26,000 U.S.) prize.

French hero Olivier Peslier won his second career Championship, after winning the second leg after a fifth place finish in the first leg. His mount in the third leg was a late vet scratch, so he had to watch from the sidelines but no other rider could catch him. A thrilled Peslier said: "It was hard to sit out the last race without a ride but luckily the jockeys behind didn't do well. Hey, it's great to have my name on this trophy again and for sure I will be back to defend this title."
