How to make a bet on a SAM (Automated teller machine)

There are several types of SAMs, Screen Activated Machines or automated tellers, in use at tracks around North America. One of the most common is the one pictured here from Scientific Games (formerly Autotote). It is used at Santa Anita, Del Mar, and Woodbine among others. These machines are easy to use and can be the quickest way to get a bet in at the last minute if lines are long at the live tellers.

To get started, just put money in the slot for cash or a voucher or winning ticket in the slot for tickets. The machine will read your bill or ticket and credit you with the correct amount. All commands to the machine from now on will be made by touching the screen.
