Chocolatier wins the 2005 Breeders Crown 2-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Trot

Walter Pitcher
The $507,600 2-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Trot saw 3-5 favorite Chocolatier overmatch his 9 rivals, leading from gate to wire and finishing 2 3/4 lengths clear of 8-1 shot Mr. Pine Chip in a time of 1:56.1. It was just 3/4 length back to 18-1 shot Capetown Hall in third. Driver Doug R. Ackerman said, "Naturally leaving I didn't think they were going to concede to me. But a few more came out than I thought would have. I made the adjustment. Starting from the rail is the shortest distance around the track. So I didn't over-think it, going in. I was more excited about the race than he was. He was just going around as he always does." Chocolatier is owned and trained by the driver's father, Hall of Famer Doug J. Ackerman.
