Strong Yankee wins the 2005 Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Trot

Walter Pitcher
In the $610,000 3-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Trot, even-money favorite Strong Yankee ran as expected, leading every step of the way and holding off 3-2 second choice Vivid Photo by a length for the win. It was 3 lengths back to 23-1 longshot Sir Perseverance in third. The final time was 1:53.4. Co-owner Lou Domiano said, "I think you'll see this horse race (at 4 and 5). We had a discussion with Trond (trainer Smedshammer) and the other owners and we feel he can rewrite the trotting record book and that's what we're going to do, I hope. The Kentucky Futurity was a sensational performance. I just wish we were standing here the first week in August (for the Hambletonian) talking to you, maybe next year for the Breeders Crown."
