The finest pacers and trotters in North America will be showcased on Saturday evening, October 29, at Woodbine Racetrack when the 12 Breeders Crown championship finals, worth a total of $6 million, are run. This is only the second time in history (the first was last year at Pocono Downs) that all 12 races are run on the same night. All races will be run at the standard distance of 1 mile over the 7/8 mile stonedust oval.

Eliminations (for overdrawn races) were run on the previous Friday and Saturday to determine who gets into the finals, and post positions were drawn for 10 of the 12 races. For two of the marquee races, the $600,000 final for Open Trot and the $500,000 final for the 3-year-old Colt Pace, the posts were drawn at a special lunchtime ceremony at WEGZ Stadium Bar on Tuesday.

On hand to assist with the proceedings was Buffalo Bills safety George Wilson, a native of Paducah, Kentucky who has been a team captain for the last two seasons. He was drafted out of the University of Arkansas as a wide receiver but made the switch to defense in 2007 when the Bills had overspent on receivers and had an opening, which he took in order to permanently come off the practice roster and play full time. He is well-known in the Buffalo area for his charity work through his SAFETY Foundation for troubled youth, and has expanded his efforts to his hometown of Paducah.

The $600,000 Open Trot is carded as the 7th race at 9:00pm ET, and a field of 7 was drawn. Since the race was not overdrawn, no elimination was needed. San Pail is the 2-1 morning line favorite and drew post 7, and he comes to Woodbine off a 6 race win streak including the Maple Leaf Trot at Mohawk, Nat Ray Invitational at Meadowlands, and Credit Winner Open at Vernon Downs. Regular driver Randy Waples will be in the sulky for trainer Rodney Hughes on Saturday night. The 5-1 second choice is European invader Rapide Lebel, trained in France by Sebastien Guarato and drawing post 5. He has win 4 in a row including the Prix Saint Michel in Finland, the Grand Prix de Wallone in Belgium, and the Abys Grand Prix in Sweden. Regular driver Eric Raffin will be in to drive.

The 11th race on Saturday night will be the $500,000 Three-Year-Old Colt and Gelding Pace, at 10:40pm ET. A full field of 10, with 2 also-eligibles, were drawn. 3-1 morning line favorite Roll With Joe drew post 6. He was 3rd in his elimination heat, after finishing second in the Little Brown Jug final. Regular driver Ron Pierce gets the call again for trainer Ed Hart. The 9-2 second choice is Hugadragon out of post 7. He was second in his elimination, after winning the Tattersalls Stakes at The Red Mile. Yannick Gingras will be in the sulky for trainer Ron Burke.

The Breeders Crown races will begin at 7:52pm with the 3-year-old Filly Pace and will end up at 10:47pm with the 3-year-old Colt Pace. Live coverage of 8 of the 12 finals will be televised on The Score in Canada and MAV-TV in the U.S. from 8-11:15pm. As well, all 12 races will be shown live on TVG in the U.S. and HPI-TV in Canada, as well as at simulcast sites across North America and for the first time, Australia and New Zealand. Free past performances are be available from Standardbred Canada here, the U.S. Trotting Association here, and from Woodbine here.

Below are the entries and odds for the two big races, the 3-year-old Colt Pace and and the Open Trot. You can find the entries, post positons, odds, and race times for the rest of the Breeders Crown races on the next page.
