The first race on Sunday afternoon was also the longest race all weekend. Older horses traveled a marathon distance of 4000 meters (about 2 1/2 miles) in the Prix du Cadran Casino Les Princes Barriere de Cannes (G1) for a purse of 250,000 euros. 3.40-1 second choice Le Miracle and 5-1 fourth choice Shamdala made the early pace at a slow gallop while 6-5 favorite Sergeant Cecil ran as expected, biding his time and saving energy at the back of the tightly bunched field for the first 2 miles. Through the stretch, Frankie Dettori asked Sergeant Cecil and he responded, closing well to catch stalker Shamdala and pacesetter Le Miracle inside the final 1/8 to win by a measured 3/4 length in 4:20.90. 1/2 a length separated Shamdala and Le Miracle, and it was another 1 1/2 lengths back to 7-2 third choice Reefscape in fourth.
