The European flat racing season culminates with the weekend of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in Paris with seven Group 1 events held over 2 days. Like most European racecourses, all races at Longchamp are contested over the turf, which was rated "Good" for the weekend. The first of the Group 1 stakes is the Prix de la Foret, a 7 furlong sprint with a purse of 250,000 euros. Longshots Welsh Emperor and Linngari battled on the front end around the far turn and into the stretch, when 4-1 Caradak, who had stalked them just off the pace in third, took over with a furlong to go and held them off to win by a neck in 1:20.90. The pair of pacesetters dead-heated for place while 5-2 favorite Stormy River closed late but finished 3/4 length back in fourth.
