The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation is now selling two of America's most popular equine books, with the profits going to veterinary research beneficial to the horse, it was announced by Grayson-Jockey Club President Ed Bowen.

"Lightning in a Jar" and "Rascals and Racehorses", both written by W. Cothran (Cot) Campbell, were published by Eclipse Press and provided at cost by the publisher, Bowen said.

The critically acclaimed Lighting in a Jar details the Thoroughbred ownership process through the unique combination of how-to guide and autobiography. In Rascals and Racehorses, Campbell shares hilarious stories about some of racing's more fascinating individuals.

"Cot's visibility and the popularity of his two books should make this effort a great success," Bowen said. "All profits go to equine research."

Lighting in a Jar sells for $32 and Rascals and Racehorses for $27, which includes shipping. The books can be ordered through www.grayson-jockeyclub.org or by calling Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation at (859) 224-2850.

Campbell is a pioneer of racing partnerships. His Aiken, South Carolina-based Dogwood Stable has introduced more than 1,000 people to Thoroughbred racing. The stable has campaigned 63 stakes winners, including the 1990 Preakness winner Summer Squall and his daughter Storm Song, Champion filly of 1996. The millionaire Smok'n Frolic and three-year-old stakes winner Limehouse are two of Dogwood's current top runners.
