There were 8 races on Day 2 of the 2009 Breeders' Cup World Championships. Of these, one of the more highly anticipated was the $2 million TVG Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) for older horses going 1 mile on the turf. Last year's winner and 4-year-old filly was back and was sent off as the 7-5 favorite, exiting a close third in the Prix de la Foret. In to challenge her in the field of 11 included 9-2 second choice Zacinto, second in the Queen Elizabeth II last out, and 6-1 third choice Delegator, third in the Queen Elizabeth II after winning the Celebration Mile.
Gladiatorus set the early pace of 22.98, 45.22, and 1:08.34 over the firm course while being challenged by Cowboy Cal and Whatsthescript. Entering the stretch, Courageous Cat came through and opened up a 1 1/2 length lead with a furlong remaining but Goldikova, 10th early, closed down the center of the course to win by 1/2 a length in 1:32.26. It was a length back to Justenuffhumor third.
