The $2 million TVG Breeders’ Cup Sprint saw 14 speedsters go 6 furlongs over the fast main track, with Henny Hughes sent off as the heavy 8-5 favorite over 4-1 Bordonaro. 42-1 Attila’s Storm was quickest out of the gate and got the first quarter in a quick 21.55 while being pressured by 16-1 Thor’s Echo to his inside. Thor’s Echo poked a head in front at the top of the stretch through a half in 44.40, then drew away through the stretch to win by 4 lengths over late-running 59-1 Friendly Island in a time of 1:08.80. It was just 1/2 a length back to 29-1 Nightmare Affair in third, a head more to Bordonaro in fourth. Favorite Henny Hughes stumbled at the start, suffered traffic trouble early, and failed to fire, finishing last.

Winning trainer Doug O’Neil said, Corey (Nakatani) gave this horse a marvelous ride. He had been training wonderfully coming up to the race, but Corey's ride was the key. This is just a great, great experience for me and for my people." Jockey Corey Nakatani said, "He was traveling so well beneath me and on the backside, I was just looking for the spot to go. He ran a tremendous race. As I was turning for home, I turned him loose and what a race he ran. I just put him in a place to win. I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for this guy. He deserves to be a champion."
