Mine That Bird was sent out for a 5/8 mile work by trainer Chip Woolley, and the Kentucky Derby winner completed the distance in 1:01 2/5 under jockey Joe Talamo. Calvin Borel, who rode Mine That Bird in the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, and Goodwood Stakes, will again ride the son of Birdstone in the Classic.

Woolley, now walking without crutches but still limping slightly from a leg injury, said, "He worked super, really super. I was looking for 1:02, but it was just what we wanted. He really looked good getting over the ground and was just gliding out there. What really has helped him is that they've tightened the track. It's really helped him fire off the ground. He's like a jackrabbit with the way his hind end pushes him forward."
