A field of 10 older fillies and mares went 6 furlongs in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. La Traviata was sent off as the 2-1 favorite over 3-1 second choice Dream Rush and 6-1 Miss Macy Sue

Dream Rush was allowed an uncontested lead of up to 2 lengths through quick fractions of 21.29 and 44.19 while La Traviata sat in stalking position second the whole way. Entering the lane, La Traviata faded from contention but 8-1 Maryfield put in a strong late move from eighth early. She took the lead inside the 1/16 pole and was all out to hold off late-closing 43-1 longest shot Miraculous Miss by just 1/2 a length in 1:09.85 over the sloppy, sealed main track. It was another 1 1/2 lengths to Miss Macy Sue third, while favorite La Traviata finished sixth.
