A field of 11 older horses faced the starter in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Mile (G1), contested at 1 mile around 2 turns of the turf course at Santa Anita. 3-year-old filly Goldikova was sent off as the 9-5 favorite exiting three straight graded stakes wins including the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp last time out. Last year's winner Kip Deville was the 4-1 second choice over Del Mar Mile winner Whatsthscript at 9-2.

Thorn Song set a brisk early pace of 23.00, 46.52 and 1:10.07 over the firm turf while being stalked by Daytona to his outside and Goldikova to his inside. At the 1/8 pole, jockey Olivier Peslier aboard Goldikova found an opening between horses and when he asked her, the favorite came through with a quick burst of speed to earn the victory by 1 1/4 lengths over Kip Deville in 1:33.40. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back to Whatsthescript third.
