On Monday morning, a number of Breeders' Cup contenders already on the grounds went out for some work on the Pro-Ride main track. Haze shrouded the usually stunning view of the San Gabriel Mountains in the early morning, but by the end of training hours this had lifted and the skies were clear.

Defending Classic champion and Horse of the Year Curlin worked 4f on Pro-Ride in 49 3/5 before sunrise under exercise rider Carlos Rosas, then schooled in the paddock accompanied by assistant trainer Scott Blasi aboard stable pony Pancho Trainer Steve Asmussen said, "We don't feel like he owes us something. You just want him to run his race. And what a stage this is."
