There were 8 races on Day 2 of the 2010 Breeders' Cup World Championships. Of these, one of the more highly anticipated was the $2 million TVG Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) for older horses going 1 mile on the turf. 5-year-old mare Goldikova, winner of this race in both 2008 and 2009, was back looking to be the first 3-time Breeders' Cup winner, and was sent off as the 6-5 favorite, exiting her win in the Prix de la Foret. In to challenge her in the field of 11 included 4-1 second choice Gio Ponti, winner of the Shadwell Turf Mile, and 5-1 third choice Sidney's Candy, winner of the La Jolla.
Sidney's Candy set the early pace of 24.02, 47.49, and 1:11.33 over the firm course while being stalked by 47-1 Get Stormy and 56-1 Beethoven. Entering the stretch Sidney's Candy continued to lead but the pacesetters all tired in the final furlong, as Goldikova, 6th early, accelerated past 5 horses in short order and drew off late to win by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:35.16. It was a neck back to 22-1 The Usual Q.T. third.
