2004 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Lone Star Park

NTRA/Breeders' Cup Ltd.
This year tickets were once again sold via a lottery among all the people who had signed up as wanting tickets. Because Lone Star Park is a very small venue compared to most past Breeders' Cups, with a grandstand only holding about 10,000, most of the seats available are temporary seats and there is NO general admission. Some of the seats are located around the clubhouse or final turn and thus won't give a very good view of the races. These seats also will NOT include any access to the grandstand or paddock areas. Despite this, all 51,000 seats are now sold out. You also must buy a parking permit in advance to park in any of the onsite or remote lots. Contact info for permits is here.

If you want to take a chance on finding tickets outside the gate on race day, there are likely to be some available that way, but be careful. Reselling tickets for more than face value is legal in Texas but the cops may try to crack down on ticket resellers if they don't have a license to sell on the street.

If you really want to go, there are tons of them available via ticket brokers but be prepared to pay up to 10 times the face value. Before I paid those high prices, I would try the various online forums, classifieds, and auctions like Yahoo and eBay to get one at a more reasonable price.

You can view a seating diagram of Lone Star for the Breeders' Cup here. Remember that only the grandstand seats give access to the building or paddock area and not tickets in the temporary seating.
