The Breeders' Cup Challenge is an automatic-entry stakes program introduced for the 2007 Breeders' Cup Championships which has expanded over its first three seasons. A number of stakes races, mostly in North America but with increasing numbers of overseas races, are designated as "Win and You're In" events, and the winners of those stakes races earn an automatic berth into the corresponding Breeders' Cup race. For example, the Arlington Million winner bypasses the usual field selection process and is guaranteed a spot in the Breeders' Cup Turf. However, if a turf stakes race is moved to the main track, this cancels the "Win and You're In" provision as the race was not conducted on the correct surface. The program began with about 20 races its first year and has tripled in size since then.
