2011 Breeders' Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs

Updated November 04, 2011

Entries closed and post positions were drawn for the 15 Breeders' Cup World Championship races on Monday, October 31, in the Millionaire's Row dining room at Churchill Downs. Morning line odds were set by Churchill Downs handicapper Mike Battaglia and jockey assignments were also announced and should be final now barring any last minute changes.

The Breeders' Cup World Championships is at Churchill Downs for the second year in a row. Like last year, the Breeders' Cup will have a total of 15 races spread over two days of racing with $26 million in purse money on the line, with the new Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint added to Friday this year. Friday November 4th will have six races including all the distaff divisions, headlined by the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic (formerly the Breeders' Cup Distaff) worth $2 million. Saturday November 5th will have nine races headlined by the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at 1 1/4 miles.

Television coverage for the Breeders' Cup will be on ESPN and ESPN2 with the schedule so far being:

  • Friday, November 4, 4:00-8:00 ET on ESPN2
  • Saturday, November 5, 2:00-3:30 ET on ABC, then 3:30-7:30 on ESPN
Note that the Breeders' Cup Marathon on Saturday will only be shown on TVG at 1:20 ET.

Check here for the latest TV schedule including preps and preview shows.

Here are the races with purses, conditions, and tentative post times for both days. I will update the order and post times once Breeders' Cup releases the actual schedules. Just click the race names to get links for info specific to that race plus a list of the current top contenders. Each horse's name links to a detailed profile for him or her. Good luck with your handicapping and enjoy what should be a spectacular day of racing at its finest. Note that all post times are Eastern Time.
