Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1)
Distance: 1 Mile (Turf)
Conditions: 2 Year Olds
Distance: $1 Million
Post Time: 2:02pm

A total of 20 horses were pre-entered for the Juvenile Turf but only 14 made the final field on October 31, as some withdrew or opted to go in other races. One additional horse was listed as also-eligible in case of a scratch.

The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G2) was introduced to the Championships program in 2007 at Monmouth Park, initially run on the Friday then moved to Saturday starting with the 2008 Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita and remaining there since. It has been run at the 1 mile distance since the first year. The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf was run as an ungraded stake for its first two editions, and then was upgraded to Grade 2 status by the American Graded Stakes Committee for 2008-2010. In 2011 it will run as as a Grade 1 for the first time. Prior to its inception, juveniles that excelled on turf (including Europeans) had to run on the dirt in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Fillies competed against males the first year, until the 2008 introduction of the Juvenile Fillies Turf. The two runnings at Santa Anita were both won by jockey Frankie Dettori and trainer John Gosden, with Donativum in 2008 for owner Princess Haya of Jordan and Darley Stable, and 2009 with Pounced for owner Lady Serena Rothschild. The fastest Juvenile Turf running was 2008 when Donativum completed the 8 furlongs in 1:34.68, while the slowest was in 2007 over the soft Monmouth Park course with Nownownow running it in 1:40.48. The race had a title sponsor, Grey Goose Vodka, for the 2008 running only. As well, it is one of the few Breeders' Cup races with a field limit of 12 (with two also-eligibles), unlike most Championship races where the limit is 14 (plus the two also-eligibles).
