Four Seasons of Racing
by Barbara D. Livingston

Publisher:  Blood-Horse, Incorporated
ISBN:  1581500122

If you have ever picked up an issue of the Blood Horse or most any other horse racing magazine, you have probably seen the photographs of Barbara Livingston. She is one of the best equine photographers coving horse racing today and seems to be able to bring out that special magic the horses have in her photographs. In this book she shows her special love for the horses and the people involved with a series of photographs showing all aspects of the horse racing industry season by season.

Spring shows the new foals, the mares and stallions waiting to be bred, the spring meets like Oaklawn and Keeneland, and of course many images from the Triple Crown. One of the most touching images in this series is Mike Smith and Prairie Bayou sharing a special moment while prepping for the Belmont Stakes, the race in which Prairie Bayou died. Summer brings the Belmont meet, Monmouth Park, and of course misty mornings and lots of racing at Saratoga. Autumn brings us back again to Belmont, the breaking of the yearlings, gorgeous fall colors at the farms, Keeneland again, and of course the Breeders' Cup. Winter takes us to Aqueduct, snowy winter scenes at various farms and tracks, and closes with training and racing in Florida.

If you ever wanted a coffee table style book with racing photos that would interest anyone, even the non-racing fan, this book is just what you were looking for. It has just the right mix of racing and farm photos to keep you intrigued. There is very little text but you don't really notice. The photographs are the star of the show and tell the story with no need for words.
