From the Desert to the Derby: Inside the Ruling Family of Dubai's Billion-Dollar Quest to Win America's Greatest Horse Race
by Jason Levin
Former Fox Sports racing writer Jason Levin personally follows the progress of Godolphin's two year olds over the 2001 season, the horses targeted to this year's Derby, the year Sheikh Mohammed predicted that he would win. Levin flawlessly paints the picture of Godolphin as the most powerful force in Thoroughbred racing today, one with a seemingly infinite budget and with equine and human talent equipped to capture every Group 1 race in the world. Interspersed throughout the book are history pieces about the sport, such as where the breed originated and how the Kentucky Derby came to be. Levin's writing style is perfectly up to the task, keeping the reader entertained as he or she gains a better understanding of the sport in general.
