Today was the next to the last day of the fall meet at Aqueduct and the final day of their Holiday Fest featuring 3 graded stakes races: The Demoiselle(G2) and The Remsen(G2) for the 2yos at 9 furlongs and the Cigar Mile(G1) for the 3yo and ups. The finish of the Demoiselle with eventual winner Better Than Honour on the inside |
The Demoiselle for the 2yo fillies was first up and featured a decent field, although no real stars were present. Tutorial made an impressive rally from last to first but unfortunately veer in during the stretch drive and interfered with 4 other horses and was disqualified and placed 5th. That gave the win to the favorite, Better than Honour, with 59-1 longshot Waltz On By second, and Oh What a Windfall third.

The start of the Remsen |
The Remsen also suffered from a lack of any real stars, unless you count the $1 million yearling purchase Doneraile Court and the promising Millions. Neither of these were able to win today though as 29-1 longshot Comeonmom rallied from 6th to win by a neck over Millions who was a 1/2 lenths in front of 57-1 longshot Wondertross.

The finish of the Cigar Mile with Sir Bear taking the lead |
The Cigar Mile featured the best field of the day with several nice horses entered. Coronado's Quest made his final start here before heading to the stud farm and was trying to make a final bid for the 3yo Eclipse but he weakened in the final furlong to finish 4th. Affirmed Success was also in here trying to atone for his poor performance in the Breeders' Cup Sprint but was unable to hold off the rally of Sir Bear in the stretch. Distorted Humor came on for 3rd.
